Glimpses of Truth
The God of All Things . . .
Summer has arrived. I received confirmation of it just a few days ago, in a big way, or maybe a small way. Which way would impress you most? Well, I had forgotten the magnitude of how impressive they could be. They leave you with the sure knowledge that summer is here to stay for a few months.
If “they” had been a herd of elephants, I probably would have seen them or heard them coming. But they were not big or noisy. Sometimes only the big and noisy things get our attention. That shows at least two weaknesses. One, we are not knowledgeable of the facts or, two, we allow feelings to override the facts.
One of the sure facts of summer is that little critter called a chigger. “They” got my attention especially for about 3 days and 3 nights. To say the least, I was impressed. I think this reminder of summer re-emphasized to me the importance of size. I was reminded of big lessons from little things.
God doesn’t measure life the way we do. The big things don’t always impress Him.
When God wanted to deliver His people from Egypt, He didn’t sent an army—He sent a baby to a Jewish family, and years later, Moses led his people out of bondage.
And when God wanted to deliver mankind from sin, He sent another baby. Jesus Christ came as a baby that He might one day die for us on the cross.
God has always used small things to accomplish great purposes.
He used the Rod of Moses to defeat the armies of Egypt.
He used the Sling of David to overcome the giant Goliath.
He used the Lunch of a lad to feed thousands.
Never be misled by the big and noisy.
You may think that you are insignificant in the great plan of God, but you are not. You are tremendously important to God, to the point that Jesus died for you.
In your eyes or mine, you may be small and quiet; that’s alright—alright in one sense. Right, because God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.
However, humility is not an excuse to do nothing; rather, it is a strength to be given to the glory of God.
Small? Yes! But powerful and important.
