Glimpses of Truth

What’s Around the Corner?

Ten years ago this week, we were looking back at how foolish we had been to be caught up in the frustrations and fears of what could happen or what might happen at the turn of the century.  Remember Y2K or something like that?  Ha!  It’s been ten years and those fears seem very small.  Look at today.  Now we are in the middle of a war against terrorism, fears of political unrest, a slowdown of the economy, and who knows?

What’s next?  What will 2010 bring?  Like a spinning wheel, where she stops, nobody knows.  That’s true for me and you in some ways but not in all ways.  The one way that we have a sense of direction is to follow the map of God’s promises.  We may not always know the direction, possibly because we failed to follow, to stop, look and listen to the signs.  Yet He knows.  He knows us, our future, our world’s future – everything and all things.  “My Lord knoweth” is found almost 100 times in the Bible.

A few weeks ago, I became more aware of what God said concerning what He knows about us.

“He knoweth the way that I take”           Job 23:10         sometimes I wonder

“He knoweth the secrets of the heart”   Ps. 44:21          sometimes unpure

“He knoweth the thoughts of man”       Ps. 94:11          sometimes adrift

“He knoweth our frame”                       Ps. 103:14        sometimes our doctor can’t answer us

“He knoweth what things we have

need of”                                 Matt. 6:8           not just what I want

“He knoweth your hearts”                     Luke 16:15        I can’t hide

“He knoweth the thoughts of the wise” I Cor. 3:20         I’m often unwise

“He knoweth them that are His”            II Tim. 2:19        Oh, how I thank Him

“He knoweth how to deliver the godly

out of temptation”                     II Peter 2:9        I need Him daily

“He knoweth all things”                        I John 3:20        Isn’t it neat that He knows everything

and I can trust Him?

Because He knows so much, I can rest in Him and not doubt or worry in the New Year!  He not only knows everything, He is also in control of everything.  Wow!

Now, if I want to know more, I must have a better understanding of Who God is and what God knows.  Therefore, if I will read and grasp more of God’s Word, I will then begin to know more of what I need to know and am supposed to know.  If I’m going to make it through this new year, in this crazy mixed-up world with its fears and frustrations, worries and doubts, not knowing what’s around the corner, then I’d better be sure of one thing.  It’s this – that I know the One Who is on both sides of the corner.  Furthermore, that I know Him Who is the corner.

“Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone,” Ephesians 2:20.

I need to let Him be my Chief and my Rock.  May we all be able to say, “He’s my rock in Him I must hide!”  When we do, what’s around the corner will be okay!
