Glimpses of Truth
First Love First . . .
Believers everywhere are in need. For those who are eager to please the Lord, there’s much to do and much to be aware of.
The Lord may find us hard at work. Certainly believers are to be busy. Hopefully you are.
The Lord may observe our perseverance. That, too, is a trait that believers everywhere should be known for. Hopefully you are.
The Lord is very much concerned about the soundness of our doctrine. All of us need more truth. Hopefully we are aware of that.
The Lord would certainly desire that we have a strong hatred for heresy. Hopefully we are aware.
But with all these good traits, it may be that we have missed the main point.
Yet we may love God’s work.
Yet we may study His Word.
Yes, it may be that we are so busy loving His work and studying His Word that we’ve left the first love.
Without noticing it, we can become dry shadows of what was once in first place.
You see, believers everywhere are in need. We need not forget our first love of a self-sacrificing Savior who freely gave Himself for us who were His enemies, gave Himself that we might have life (here and hereafter) more abundantly.
Do you love God’s work?
Do you love God’s Word?
There is no way to stay fresh in the work and the Word of God if we don’t love Him more than the work or the Word. Now, we can’t do His work apart from His Word. Nor can we know the truth of His Word apart from His love, His to us and ours to Him.
Our Lord looks for first love first, then everything else will fall in place.
