Glimpses of Truth

Searching for Happiness

The other day, a hot day, I was looking through some of my books for some special thoughts about the Power of God.  About the 5th book I pulled from the shelf was a book with a picture on the front cover of a beautiful country site of trees and a long winding road.  But what really got my attention was the fact that this scene was covered with snow.

Yes, it was a hot day.  I really don’t like the snow, because it only comes on cold days, and cold days aren’t my favorite.

But – there’s that word again.  To the child of God, there is no such thing as an accident.  We, regardless of the season, travel an appointed way.  Consider this:  before we were, a path was chosen for us in the mind of God.

Accidents, misfortune, sickness, problems of all kinds, hot days and cold days all appear to be things in our way to bringing what God would want for us, His children.

God in His plan is following His script.  We just can’t see that plan at times.  The appearance of the things around us blurs our vision from seeing His Divine Plan.  We often become fooled and lose sight that we are “hid with Christ in God.”  Are our steps ordered by the Lord?  The answer, according to God’s Word, is yes.  Yet, sometimes we doubt – don’t we?  If not by our words, we show it in our actions and reactions to the issues of life almost daily.  God is the only one with the true time.  Everything is in His time.  Sometimes I go digging in the Scripture to find a way out of my present condition, when really all I needed was to find Him.  The “Word” is about Him and how I need to respond to Him.

We like to think we have a little grasp on what He has said to us and know we are able to interpret it to all around us.  The point is, the Word of God needs no support from men.  It stands alone, strong and majestic.

Now you may think I’ve gotten off the subject or gone a little deep in my thinking.  Well, maybe or maybe not.  It’s the Bible, the Words from God Himself Who speaks to us.  It really is the Book of Life.  Those Words are what they say they are, “they are spirit, and they are life,” not just what we think they should be.

Remember those hot days?  Autumn is on the way.  The snow is coming.  The springtime will soon follow.  In all the issues of life, whether we like them or not, there is the good, the bad, the ugly.  God is still on the throne.  Happy is that person who knows that everything is well with him, because he know Who is in charge.

Problems, doubts, sickness, troubles, worries--they cause us pain, sleepless nights, and maybe even doubt.  But no instructed, growing Christian will remain bogged down.  He will rather accept his problems as an opportunity for the exercise of his spiritual virtues and an opportunity to grow his faith, instead of trying and praying for deliverance from everything that comes his way.  It has been in the midst of the storm that I see my Savior the clearest, not on the peaceful days.

Well, I was looking for that book (remember) about the “Power of God.”  I was caused to remember just from the cover of a little book that God is All Powerful.  The little book was by A.W. Tozer, “We Travel an Appointed Way.”  On Page 71 he said, “Thyself, Lord!  Give me Thyself and I can want no more.”
