Glimpses of Truth

How Big Are You?

We are reminded almost daily of the need to be conscious of our weight.  We are encouraged to purchase these pills or this drink or those exercise machines.  There are certain days and times when the TV is saturated with this type show.  The list is endless.  Thousands and thousands of books, tapes, videos, etc., you name it, are all geared to sell so that we might be that perfect size.  I’m not sure, however, what a perfect size should be.  I do recognize that we are to work with what we have.

This frail body of ours will, however, never be perfect in this life.  (Now, that’s not to say we should not be concerned and take care of ourselves.)

The fact is, however, that we are all different, just like our fingerprints or the flakes of snow.  In the midst of that difference, God knows us.

Psalm 103:14 says, “For He knoweth our frame; He remembereth that we are dust.”

Have you considered that God is tenderly concerned about our frailties?  After all, He made us, and He knows our innate weaknesses.

Our need today is to be keenly aware that despite our size or shape physically, which God is concerned about, that He is tremendously concerned that we allow Him to be in charge of our total lives.  He is concerned when burdens load us down, when adversity saps our strength, when troubles become too heavy to carry.  Don’t you experience heavy loads?  I do.  Aren’t there situations that confront you that take away your emotional, physical and spiritual strength?  I’m not immune to those things.

I encounter troubles that are just too heavy for me to carry.  It seems that all of us are in the same boat.

We are not big enough to handle the situations of life, we prove that daily, but He is!

A man was shopping in a grocery store with his small son following closely behind him.  The boy was carrying a large basket, and the father loaded it with one item after another.  He put in canned goods, sugar, flour, meat, and a variety of vegetables.  A customer watching nearby began to feel sorry for the struggling youngster.  Walking up behind him, she said quietly, “That’s a heavy load for a little chap like you to carry, isn’t it?”  The boy turned to her as if surprised that anyone needed to be told.  Then he smiled confidently and said, “Oh, don’t worry, my dad knows how much I can carry!”

What a tremendous lesson for us to learn!  Our Father knows us.  He understands precisely how much we need.  He is in charge of our load.

The God Who knows our “Load Limit” graciously limits our load.

So, the question today is not, “How are you?” but, “How big are you allowing God to be in your life?”

Trust Him today.  For He knows how big you are and how big He is!
