Glimpses of Truth

Everlastingly At It

In the past few days, I’ve seen God at work in a variety of circumstances.  Let me count the ways.  This is Fall, isn’t it?  He’s been painting the hillsides and the roadways.  The sumacs have turned a fiery red, the maples a golden yellow.  The sweetgum gives us the deep purple.  They are beautiful.  Isn’t that just like God?

The days have lost the high humidity levels that we are known for in this area.  The nights are calling for that light jacket or sweater, even a light blanket for our beds.  It’s Fall.  It’s always happened this way.  It’s God’s design.

The clock—the time has changed.  Now, we can’t blame that on God.  But we can see His hand tilt this universe in such a manner that there’s more dark time than there is light time.  Now, I don’t understand why all this happens, but I’m sure that He does, and that’s what matters.

The farmers sure have been busy gathering corn, cotton and beans these days.  The sowing of seed in the springtime has now caused a time of harvest.  One tiny seed faithfully put in the soil, carefully watered and cared for, has a wonderful way of producing so many more seeds.  God repeats this formula in so many ways in our lives.  It’s amazing how He brings about the harvest.

The other evening, I watched the full moon come from the clouds that God had scattered in the heavens.  God’s stars were peeking through to help light the way and add to the beauty of the evening.  God’s nightlights sure add awe to a Fall evening, don’t they?

Have you noticed the birds lately?  Many are heading southward.  It’s warmer there, and many of them return to the same places they came from last year.  The amazing thing is that they didn’t get their map from Wal-Mart.  Also, a few northern birds are beginning to show up here that don’t like the cold up North.  They like our weather and bird feeders just fine.  Yes, God does know sparrows.  He knows us, too!

My horses have gotten a little rest during this cool season and are getting ready for the next season ahead.  Their hair is already at least twice as thick and long as it was only a few weeks ago.  Now, I don’t remember telling them to prepare, and I didn’t see them check their calendar.  It’s all a part of God’s perfect plan.

And how about those Fall fogs?  There is an old wives’ tale which says that the number of fogs we have in a certain fall month will determine how many snows we have in the winter.  There are those, even as I write, printing and verbalizing their predictions as to how severe or how mild our winter will be.  The fogs, the moss or whatever else we might view doesn’t overrule our Ruler.  He’ll bring the snow on the just and the unjust.

I’m thankful that I’m not the one who orders the days and times, the rains and the snows.  He will keep everything in perfect balance because He’s the Creator and the Sustainer of all things.

You see, Fall has made me see how God is at work.  Yes, He really is.  Look around.  He’s—Everlastingly At It!
