Glimpses of Truth

You’ve Just Begun!

I understand it began in May 1914, as a way to recognize a very special segment of this country’s population.

Special days have always been a vital part of our society, as we know, even beginning this 21st century.  We go from one to another.  A quick glance at the calendar reminds us of special days as well as special people.  These days have become holidays, called no-work days, or extra paydays, or long weekend days, or visit-to-family-faraway days, or fishing days, or family gathering days, or lazy days, or sale days at the local marketplace, or maybe just a sleep-in day.  Just possibly we may remember the day for the reason it was set aside.  Yet it is just another day with a special reminder of something or someone.

For this special day, this country sets aside the 2nd Sunday of May each year as the day when we are asked to remember our mothers.  If you are like me, you can’t get it all done on one day.  I thank God for my mother and her special love to me and my family.  I hope you have known the real love of a precious mother.

God has allowed a mother to be a most precious gift.  She must be a walking encyclopedia.  She has to have the answers to the simplest of all childlike questions and the solutions to the most complex issues in life.

She has to be a master mechanic who can put that button on, put that bicycle chain back in place, or repair a broken heart.

She has the ability to cuddle in her arms that gift from God or hug in public that grown adult and not embarrass him.

A mother’s duties are never done.  She’s like a thriving business that grows each day.  It just doesn’t happen from 9 to 5.

Mom, you’re important!  You need more than a special day.

In today’s society, all moms need the support and prayers of the Christian community.  If ever a mom needed a sense of spiritual values, faith, courage, wisdom, joy, trustworthiness, dedication, kindness, and reverence, it is today.

We need you moms; you’ve still got more to do!
