Glimpses of Truth
Do you ever have the opportunity to lead in something? Possibly it’s at work or church. It could be in a club or organization in which you’re involved or, more importantly, it could be within your family.
Snoopy is lying on top of his doghouse. He is lamenting that everybody wants something, everybody complains, and that he has more to do than he can possibly get done. In the final frame of the Schultz comic strip, Snoopy declares, “I hate being Head Beagle!”
The Head Beagle gets more criticism and really can’t spend his time doing all the beagle things that are fun. If only he could romp and play and go rest or do nothing. Those tasks are in the chocolate cake category. Often he has to stick to the lima beans and brussels sprouts. Don’t we all?
We live in a time when there are tremendous amounts of things going on. People are making decisions, important decisions, which affect our future.
They may be our President or senator, congressman, governor, mayor or many other countless thousands who are elected or appointed. Yes, they may be politicians, but their decisions affect the outcome of our country for decades to come.
They could be pastors who represent possibly a million churches in this country alone. They make tremendous decisions to help lead their flocks and help sway the decisions made in that particular community. Our spiritual leaders’ “leadership” is very important.
They could be CEO’s of industries and corporations who ultimately are the ones responsible for the success or failure of that business. That means good-paying jobs or no jobs at all.
The law enforcement agencies have a lot of authority today (even though their hands are often tied). They must make many decisions on the spur of the moment which decide the outcome of life and death, freedom or imprisonment.
So, let’s evaluate the four. I realize we don’t always agree with our politicians’ decisions. Sometimes, however, we don’t always have all the facts that they do. Sometimes, however, they just make dumb choices the way the rest of us beagles do.
And our Pastors and spiritual leaders, for the most part, are searching their hearts to be the influence they can be to point us to our eternal home.
The CEO’s! Well, what can I say? They have tons of responsibility on their shoulders, and we need to pray for honesty in their lives.
Now, the law enforcement leaders have an obligation and awesome responsibility on which we depend for ourselves and our families when we are awake or asleep.
These are a few of those head beagles. There are many other categories you might list of those in leadership positions, but I considered these few. They may need our criticism from time to time, but more than that they need our prayers, support and encouragement, because they truly affect our future! So, you may not be a politician, a pastor, a CEO, or a law enforcement official, and you may not occupy a place of leadership. However, your decisions are valuable; your voices are important, not just as complainers, but as those who can consistently influence and lead behind the scenes. Yes, it’s easy for any of us just to complain and find fault in those who lead us. Don’t fall into that trap. Remain positive and do your part.
Now, you may be one of those leaders. Okay and good! Just remember, God has opened a door and allowed you to help make a difference, but, regardless of what group you’re in, every day is filled with opportunities to do that which is good.
