Glimpses of Truth
Rescue Us
I sometimes feel as though I’m out of touch. Some of my views and values which I learned as a child and young adult have seemingly vanished, not from my point of view but from the main- stream.
My heart is saddened by the decisions being made today by good and caring people, who are overlooking or not searching out from God’s Word the basis for their decisions. After all, this is the 21st Century, and to be politically and socially correct, our values and views must be compromised or weakened if we are going to remain on the good side of the world’s values and views.
Oh yes, we may hold on for awhile, but the pressure on us and against God’s standards are so strong that I am afraid that our convictions end up being swept under the rug.
Every phase of our complex society is being pressured. None is exempt. Communities and their leaders -- school boards, organizations, even churches, and especially the family -- are under attack. With disregard for God, it seems we’re just rewriting the rules. On the state and national scene, it’s no better, probably worse. Many of our leaders simply have a disregard for God and His standards to the point that it seems almost unbelievable (to me, that is). Maybe I’m just out of touch.
Every value, every standard is being challenged at every level. Are we crawling in our shell to avoid looking or sounding different? Have we lost our backbone? Is it our power to stand that is being attacked? We’ve always demonstrated our weakness. Haven’t we? We’ve always, along with Adam, blamed someone or something else. We’ve always gone our own way and disregarded what God has said. (At times! Haven’t we?)
But I would think that as we grow older, we could grow wiser in the things of God. Yet for many, it seems, God is only Someone Who is talked about at churches on Sunday. Study! You mean there’s more to it than going or joining or giving to a local church? You mean there’s more to it than being kind and loving, more than being good (according to our standards) and doing good things for people and the community who need a little help?
As God looks down upon us in this 21st Century, I often wonder what He thinks. But in reality, I know what He thinks as I read and study what He has said about the past, the present, and the future. I’m afraid this is a dark hour in history. Even God’s people are losing sight of the Great Light for the direction that is needed and required to stay on the right paths. Oh God, help us.
I’m aware of the god of this world who walks to and fro in order to weaken and destroy. He’s very persuasive to make us think he doesn’t exist and that we can just make the 21st Century a time of our truth -- his truth. He’s good at preventing us from understanding God’s truths. The imitator has slipped us a counterfeit. Religion – man’s ways, views and values – have superseded and are superseding God.
Oh God, rescue us. Cause us to see Your face.
