Glimpses of Truth
Great Accomplishments For God . . .
From my earliest recollections, I have always thought reading biographies was interesting. It can be challenging and amazing just to read and see how the great men and women of our history have left their mark upon our world, even on our own lives. Many were ridiculed and rejected when they first presented their ideas. Yet they went on to accomplish great tasks. Many names in all walks of life are recognized the world around for their accomplishments.
Not all works, however, are going to be great in the eyes of men and be known around the world. But that’s not the important thing. The important thing is that we do our work well so that it will be big, or rather accepted, in the eyes of God.
We must have words of warning here: not everything that is big is necessarily of God. It is possible for us to manufacture success in our own way and in our minds.
The Tower of Babel was a great success until God sent His judgment and the whole thing fell apart.
We are hooked, I’m afraid, on the evaluation of men. May we remember that whatever is done in love for Christ will have power and influence for all eternity, no matter what man thinks about it.
No work is small if it is God’s work. No gift is small if it is given in faith and love. No act of service is small if it is done to the glory of Christ.
Don’t go around comparing yourself with others. Their task and performance of it might be big enough for some to write a book, but let God do the measuring and the weighing. He measures for eternity, and that is what really counts.
